Despite being an intelligent humanoid race, goblins have faced much adversity and persecution in the Harry Potter universe, particularly in the 17th and 18th centuries when goblin rebellions were prevalent. Many wizards still consider them a subservient race, and to this day they are forbidden from using wands by The Ministry of Magic. In Chapter 15 of The Order of the Phoenix, the Daily Prophet claimed there were still disruptive groups of goblins even during the 1990s, although no concrete evidence supported the newspaper's claim. It seems entirely likely for some goblins to still harbor resentment towards wizards. In 1877, the 393rd Quidditch World Cup became known as " The Tournament that Nobody Remembers, " as a venue was selected, tickets were sold, and players were injured, but no one can recall the events of that day. It's not known for sure what happened, but speculation has narrowed the blame to either a colossal outbreak of Cerebrumous Splattergroit (a fungus causing confusion and memory loss) or a mass Memory Charm perpetuated by the Goblin Liberation Fr
Most of the information given regarding Hogwarts Legacy concerns the context in which the game takes place. The trailer provides very little information, as it focuses on the environments and setting up the game's tone, with an optimistic narrator laying out the player's role as a student at Hogwarts, though no specifics are gi
The most information available about Hogwarts Legacy's gameplay comes from the multitude of Harry Potter rumors and leaks that preceded the game's official announcement. Rumors first began circulating in 2018 when footage leaked on Reddit. The footage was quickly taken down, but it has resurfaced over the years alongside some other details. While leaks cannot always be trusted, much of the information has been confirmed with the announcement of Hogwarts Legacy . The original rumors suggested that the game would be a third-person, open world RPG set during the 1800s. All of these assertions have been proven true, so the other, unverified details have, at least, some merit. According to the original rumors, the game contains a class system, allowing players to choose between eight different types of wizards , and has a story driven by moral choices with players determining the fate of the world: a sentiment that befits the game's title. However, none of the information provides any clues on whether or not Hogwarts Legacy will be single-player or multipla
So, here’s a game based on the best part of one of the biggest franchises of our time. Now, how can Hogwarts Legacy do what other lore building material like the Fantastic Beasts series couldn’t? Well, I have some id
The author and creator of the Harry Potter books, J.K. Rowling has faced notable backlash dating back to 2017 when she was criticized for liking a tweet that was clearly transphobic. At the time representatives claimed it was a "middle-aged moment," however since then, she has been incredibly public in her views. These views erupted this year and more recently, on the very week that Hogwarts Legacy was revealed. If you want to catch up on everything that's happened, it seems Glamour has a detailed breakdown of everyth
On a PlayStation blog post, following the announcement, Adrian Ropp, the head of story at Avalanche, laid out the time and place of the game's world. Players will explore Hogwarts and neighboring regions during the late 1800s, a period unexplored in the Potter universe. As Ropp wrote, "N early-Headless Nick would have been floating around, loyal and cheerful as eve r" while the goblins, who were also around, " certainty didn’t work at Gringotts ." That is to say, the game's world is both familiar and unknown. While all the world building is compelling, it does little to inform players about how Hogwarts Legacy will play or what kind of RPG it will be. Neither the trailer for Hogwarts Legacy , nor Ropp's post, gives any information regarding how players will engage with the world's characters. Its entirely possible that the game is an MMO, a single-player adventure, or something in-between. While nothing can be definitively said, a look at past leaks and Avalanche Software's own history provides some insi
However, with Rowling trending alongside the games reveal, fans on Twitter were torn on whether or not to purchase the game as it would mean financially supporting Rowling and her views that many people within the community have deemed as transphobic, harmful, and relevant web-site disappointing. In light of this, the games FAQ page indicates that " J.K. Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game," it reads, "however, her extraordinary body of writing is the foundation of all projects in the Wizarding Wor
Games like Skyrim have found the perfect balance of plot with purpose. Quests don't feel bogged down and include adventure and challenge across the board. Some quests are much higher in difficulty than others, while the main storyline is enriched by what players accomplish before going to the main plot points on the map. By making sure that everything players do affects the story they are immersed in, the exploration process is rewarding. If Hogwarts Legacy is able to integrate the world into it's story, and put value on side quests and a filled-out map, the game could be very successful. A map that has no weight or purpose will not feel worth exploring or useful to the game, so quality content is
